Registro Italiano Navale (RINA)

Registro Italiano Navale (RINA) was founded in 1861 in Genoa, Italy, and is the third-oldest classification society in the world, following Lloyd’s Register and Bureau Veritas. In 1999, in response to the 1994 European Council directive, which liberalized the ship classification market, RINA transferred all operational activities to the newly formed company, RINA S.p.A., where Registro Italiano Navale became the main shareholder.

Originally, RINA focused exclusively on ship classification, but since 1999, it has expanded its operations into the energy, mobility, certification, industry, real estate, and infrastructure sectors.
